Honey

HoneyHoney is a benign and serene black lab mix (we think.) She came to us after her owner passed away and the family asked for help because of too many dogs on hand. Honey is a senior dog – without her makeup, you can tell by the grey whiskers. Her hearing is marginal – and her vision seems limited (until she sees a food dish – then all systems seem to be on!) She is a nice girl to be with and she’ll depend on you for a steadying hand and counsel. For all the help and warmth you provide, she’ll show how grateful she is.

She is in good health but has a slow gait – and cautious approach – mostly due to her age, which we think is 14 year or more. She is now in a foster home with two smaller, younger, rambunctious dogs – and she handles the chaos with dignity. She is perfect in personal matters – a bladder like iron – and tolerates being alone for brief periods quite well. She would prefer to be with you – she will follow you anywhere – particularly into the kitchen. She was evidently spoiled and expects everything in a pan, dish, cup, or bowl is for her: a firm resolve by the chef is needed.

Liddy

HoneyShelties are bright and special dogs - fond of herding and being in charge when they are spry. Liddy has grown to be a calm and serene dog, with great health and strong need to connect with you. Her last few years were with an owner who declined mentally and Liddy became withdrawn. But that was the old days - now she's back, running with other dogs where she lives, and eager to be part of a family. She's small, in terrific condition, and truly a jewel in disposition and bearing - as well as being a very pretty dog. If you know about Shelties, you know this is a grand dog. If you're new to them, we know about them and you will too - and you'll thank the day Liddy joined up with you.

Liddy is a 14 year old female Sheltie who is located in the Minneapolis area.

The Omaha Twins

Max

Two shelties, sisters, who came up by covered wagon (a Lexus we think) to find a home where their ebullient spirit, active life‑style, and charming disposition can land with a lucky family. They travel together – one is named Holly, the other Sadie.

They are coming up on the tenth birthday – which should be at your place. Cake would be fine.

Their health is fine – they also got a trim (see Jenny’s profile in this section) but don’t seem embarrassed. Sadie has a heart murmur and some congestive heart issues. She takes meds (Enalapril) which provides very good results.

Their long‑time owner had to shift to a support living facility and sadly asked that the twins come to Minnesota – where Shelties are well‑regarded and where are found many people like you know the joy of making a family with such terrific animals!

Shelties are very popular – very smart – and they are a commitment. These are not hermit crabs – these are lively and involved dogs who love to see everything, do lots of things, and be involved with you. As a pair and by their nature, they would do well to have outdoors area (fenced) and an alert owner who sets rule and expects compliance. So important are these two that a nice lady with a local aviation company had pulled together a free plane ride from Omaha for them. Turned out the family members wanted to drive them up so things worked fine – but it shows what “Sheltie people” think about this grand breed.

Bubba

HoneyThis charming fellow is healthy, smallish, trained, quiet, and happy to be with folks. His family had to give
him up recently and he is best suited to a calm house - little kids spook him but he's gentle to them.

Bubba has just completed a round of vet treatment to bring him up to speed with all the shots and neutering that make a good dog into a great dog. He is a 9 year old Pomeranian / Terrier Mix.  He is a lovely and friendly fellow - not crazy and jumpy. He's been well-treated and deserves to share his good nature with you in doing things you like to do.

Bubba doesn't need to be groomed every day or fussed over -he's just a nice dog. Health is perfect and he's a hardy fellow.

Tucker

HoneyTucker is a fine dog and proud example version of the Beagle world. He is gentle and mostly would like to be attached to you - on the couch is fine. His appetite is terrific – he might do well to shift over to veggies for snacks – and maybe a little more outdoors field work!

He is trained, healthy, current all health matters, neutered, and generally just a splendid dog. Being a Beagle, he can smell a rabbit 400 miles away - and he will go after it. He must be fenced or leashed - always.  Tucker is 8 years old.

He is known to grow jumpy being left along too long - and a Beagle making “jumpy noises” can wake the
dead. Some training for separation anxiety may help. Presently he’s boarding with a nice foster family with three other dogs – and they having a grand time. We were warned that he is possessive around the feeding dish – but it seems that he’s handling that well. A great setting for him may be a home with some other livestock on hand.

Tucker’s owner died recently and the family wished they could keep him but each grown child had two or three dogs so they are counting on someone to open space for Tucker to be a great and loyal friend.

Kiley

Honey

Kiley is a miracle dog – rescued one day ahead of scheduled euthanasia at a shelter because no adopters showed interest. One of our great foster folks drove over, piled him into her car, and began his new chapter. He had been abandoned and probably not given all the expected care any dog deserved – but within days he was living large and coming into his own. He’s had a good round of vet review and help – and in a few days he’s scheduled for one last round, which will include teeth cleaning.  Kiley is a Black Lab Mix who is 8+ years old.

His new social skills are a delight – at first he was anxious and uneasy with three other dogs in his “temp” but they’ve all found peace and enjoy each other – except for the Shih Tzu who stays upstairs and considers all other dogs an intrusion on her kingdom. (He’s uninterested in her or her lofty position.)

Kiley was noticed by a staff person in the shelter as someone special. He has spunk, dignity, and kindness that are more evident each day as he returns to knowing humans as something great. The foster family initially hoped a new home could be found quickly – but in recent weeks, they’ve found reasons to continue the interim housing “just a little longer.” (This happens sometimes – particularly when someone has been on hand for renewal that comes from a rescue of a very needy dog.)

Whoever will bring Kiley home for full-time, forever companionship is signing on for a grand experience!
